LinkedIn Easy Apply vs. Company Website: Where Should You Apply?

Follow the employer's stated channel; Easy Apply can be a real ATS-connected application, while a company site is better when it carries required fields or documents.

The answer first

Follow the employer’s application path; do not apply twice by default.

LinkedIn Easy Apply is not automatically a lesser application: LinkedIn says the application is sent to the job poster, and documented integrations can deliver it into an employer's ATS. The company website is preferable when it is the required destination or carries information the LinkedIn form does not. There is no defensible universal callback advantage for either button.

  • Company site required or richer form → use the company site
  • Easy Apply is the complete stated path → it can be valid
  • Both paths available → choose one clean, complete submission
  • Save the exact resume, answers, job ID, channel, and time

One posting · one deliberate path

Let the actual application workflow decide

The strongest Reddit advice—always use the company site or always use Easy Apply—usually skips the key fact: employers can configure different routes. Inspect the posting and form before adopting a rule.

Concrete case · Riley Morgan

Easy Apply is reasonable when it is complete and verifiable

Riley is targeting a Data Analyst role. The employer's careers page confirms the same job ID, the LinkedIn form requests one resume and four screening answers, and no separate employer-site application is requested.

Why Riley uses Easy Apply

The employer-controlled page confirms the opening, the form captures the required material, and LinkedIn is the stated submission route.

What Riley saves

Job title, employer, job ID, posting URL, application URL, resume filename, screening answers, channel, and timestamp.

What Riley does not do

Riley does not submit a second company-site application, message several employees with the same request, or treat the visible applicant count as a personal ranking.

Before the resume leaves your hands

Verify the employer, role, and destination

  1. 01

    Confirm the employer identity

Open the employer's official careers domain independently. Match the company name, role, location, and job ID when available.

Check: The destination and recruiter contact use expected domains; no payment is requested.

  2. 02

    Compare the posting

Check whether the responsibilities, qualifications, location, compensation, and application instructions agree across the sources.

Check: Material differences are resolved before sending personal information.

  3. 03

    Inspect the final destination

A company-site button may lead to the employer's ATS rather than its main domain. Easy Apply should remain inside LinkedIn's direct application experience.

Check: You know which organization receives the application and why.

  4. 04

    Stop at scam signals

Do not pay for a job, equipment, training, or a check-forwarding arrangement. Do not send financial credentials or identity documents merely to submit an application.

Check: Any unusual request is verified through an independently found employer contact.

After submission

Keep enough evidence to prevent duplicate and inconsistent applications

Resume

Archive the exact PDF or DOCX with a stable version name; do not overwrite it with the next tailored draft.

Answers

Record work authorization, location, salary, availability, and other screeners exactly as submitted.

Job

Save the URL, job ID, posting text or notes, location, and date. A posting may change or disappear.

Status

Record submitted, confirmation received, follow-up, interview, rejection, or closed. Absence of a reply is not proof the channel failed.

Easy Apply FAQ

Choose the path without folklore

Is it better to apply on LinkedIn or the company website?

Use the employer's stated channel. Apply on the company site when the posting sends you there or the site contains required fields, documents, or job-specific questions. Easy Apply can be valid when it is the employer's complete application path.

Does LinkedIn Easy Apply send my application to the employer?

LinkedIn states that direct applications are sent to the job poster. LinkedIn also documents ATS integrations that can deliver applications into an employer's system. That does not mean every listing uses the same workflow or receives the same review.

Should I apply through both LinkedIn and the company website?

Usually no. Duplicate applications can create conflicting files, answers, timestamps, or candidate records. Submit once through the required or cleanest complete path unless the employer explicitly asks you to complete a second step.

Is Easy Apply a waste of time?

No universal evidence supports that claim. It is a lower-friction channel, and LinkedIn now applies daily and speed limits. Evaluate the employer, role, form, required questions, and your fit rather than assuming the button determines the outcome.

Which resume should I use for Easy Apply?

Use the target-specific version that makes the role, required skills, and strongest evidence easy to find. Confirm the saved resume is current before submission; LinkedIn lets members manage saved application information and resumes.

Editorial method

LinkedIn's current applicant and integration documentation establishes that Easy Apply can be a direct, ATS-connected application path and that limits now exist. FTC guidance anchors scam checks. Reddit threads are used only to identify the recurring channel debate; anecdotes do not establish a universal response-rate advantage.
